The striking new Buick Regal is quickly changing attitudes about what an American sport sedan has to offer, and that shift in customer perceptions will soon get even quicker—because so will the Regal. Buick has recently premiered the new Regal GS, which packs an exclusive high-output 2.0-liter Ecotec engine that’s been turbocharged to deliver an estimated 255 hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque; the bottom line here: A Buick that’s expected to dash from 0-60 mph in under seven seconds.
Yet while that impressive I4 engine is the heart of the Regal GS, it’s far from the only enhancement that will be available. Standard equipment also will include Buick’s cutting-edge Interactive Drive Control System, which allows owners to custom-tune the car’s suspension settings and steering sensitivity to meet their own personal preferences for standard, sport or GS-level performance.
The bold new Buick also showcases GS-level style, thanks to exterior design elements like model-specific front and rear fascias. The former is highlighted by vertical air-intake slots and a unique grille, while the latter is enhanced by integrated trapezoidal exhaust outlets with a satin-metallic finish. Also part of the package:
- A standard six-speed manual transmission and optional six-speed autobox with Driver Shift Control
- A four-wheel independent suspension with Buick’s innovative HiPerStrut system up front
- High-performance four-wheel disc brakes with Brembo front calipers
- Standard 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-season rubber or available 20-inchers with performance tires
- A racing-inspired flat-bottomed sport steering wheel
- Metal sport pedals
- Heated and leather-accented 12-way driver and front-passenger seats
- A world-class GS-only interior set off by satin-finish highlights
“Built on the performance foundation of the Regal, the Regal GS was designed as an even sportier expression of responsive performance and style,” said John Schwegman, vice president of Buick marketing. “The driving experience is powerful and spirited; and the GS represents the next entry in Buick’s product renaissance.”
The 2011 Buick Regal GS is slated to launch in the second half of 2011 at a price to be determined later.
