GMC Terrain Boasts A Sound Approach To Fuel Efficiency

by GMC in the News on April 25, 2011

GMC Terrain image

Ever wonder exactly how the 2011 GMC Terrain crossover can achieve a segment-leading fuel-economy mark of 32 mpg highway and an impressive 22 mpg city—the same ratings as a four-cylinder Toyota Camry? Well, it turns out that a key enabler of this feat was the efforts of GMC engineers to pump up the volume in terms of fuel efficiency by dialing down the noise elsewhere.

Here’s the story: The Terrain team set out to help customers attain this kind of stellar fuel economy by incorporating a driver-selectable “Eco” mode that can be engaged with a quick click of a button. In this mode, the shift points of the Terrain’s six-speed automatic are adjusted so that the clutch engages at lower engine speeds, which helps save fuel. However, the system also created a low-frequency “booming” noise that was far out of character for a Professional Grade product like the Terrain. [click to continue…]

2012 Buick Regal GS image

The striking new Buick Regal is quickly changing attitudes about what an American sport sedan has to offer, and that shift in customer perceptions will soon get even quicker—because so will the Regal. Buick has recently premiered the new Regal GS, which packs an exclusive high-output 2.0-liter Ecotec engine that’s been turbocharged to deliver an estimated 255 hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque; the bottom line here: A Buick that’s expected to dash from 0-60 mph in under seven seconds.

Yet while that impressive I4 engine is the heart of the Regal GS, it’s far from the only enhancement that will be available. Standard equipment also will include Buick’s cutting-edge Interactive Drive Control System, which allows owners to custom-tune the car’s suspension settings and steering sensitivity to meet their own personal preferences for standard, sport or GS-level performance. GMC To Show New Off-Roader Concept In Detroit

by GMC in the News on December 27, 2010

GMC Sierra All Terrain HD concept image

The “New GM” appears to be a little more concerned these days with compacts and MPG. But, at the Detroit Auto Show next month, GM will show the GMC Sierra All Terrain HD off-road truck concept which boasts  plenty of “Old GM” attitude.

The Sierra All Terrain HD is a very large, and very bold, off-roading machine that seems to be aimed directly at the Ford F-Series Raptor. Although it’s based on a 2011 Sierra HD pickup, this concept also receives heavily re-tuned suspension to handle rugged terrain. [click to continue…]

Buick’s Roadmasters Ensure A Smooth-Riding Future

by GMC in the News on November 30, 2010

2011 Buick Regal image

Not just a name from the division’s storied past, today’s “roadmasters”—a.k.a. some very innovative Buick engineers—take an innovative digital approach to ensuring today’s Buicks offer a premium driving experience regardless of conditions.

For example, these Buick researchers have now developed a unique scanning device that can “read” the road in the same way a photo scanner analyzes a document. The result is a highly detailed, three-dimensional digital version of the road, which is then used to test equally detailed digital representations of the latest Buicks. The road scanner uses a number of cameras and a laser to create the digital road, which is accurate to within 1 mm of the real thing. [click to continue…]

GM’s New Mild Hybrid: 2012 Buick LaCrosse eAssist

by GMC in the News on November 15, 2010

2012 Buick LaCrosse eAssist image

General Motor has announced the addition of eAssist technology for the Buick LaCrosse. The system utilizes a 115-volt lithium-ion battery and 15-kilowatt electric motor to boost fuel economy by 25 percent compared to the standard four-cylinder LaCrosse. The end result is an estimated 25 mph city and 37 mpg highway.

When the 2012 Buick LaCrosse accelerates, the electric motor delivers 15 horsepower and 79 pound-feet of torque to help propel the vehicle before the gasoline engine turns on. During acceleration, the eAssist system engages once again. Additional fuel-saving tech includes a fuel shut-off feature, regenerative braking, and a start/stop system. The powertrain is mated to GM’s Hydra-Matic 6T40 six-speed automatic transmission. [click to continue…]

No. 13 Is Good Luck For GMC And GM

by GMC in the News on November 8, 2010

2011 GMC Sierra Denali 3500 HD image

While plenty of folks enjoy being in seventh heaven or up on cloud nine, most people want nothing to do with poor old number 13. Yet even hard-core triskaidekaphobics may change their thinking after learning what a big part those digits played in a recent General Motors success story.

According to Used Car Dealer Albuquerque, when the team at GM’s Flint (Mich.) Assembly facility sent a 2011 GMC Sierra Denali 3500HD down the line recently, it became the 13 millionth vehicle to be built at the storied plant—and the 13th GMC truck to be owned by the same loyal customer. Packing all of the power one expects from a Professional Grade pickup, the Sierra Denali was kitted out with a robust Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine that makes up to 397 hp and a staggering 765 lb.-ft. of torque. That powerplant is then mated to a durable Allison 1000 six-speed transmission, creating a workhorse truck that can tow up to 21,700 lbs. and boasts a 6,635 lb. payload. The folks at Boat and RV Savannah consider that to be an impressive feat! But it does so in high style, thanks to a full range of Denali accouterments. Among them: The trademark Denali four-bar chrome grille with round air inlets, body-color bumpers, chrome door handles, chrome accents, and a choice of 17-, 18- or 20-inch polished/forged aluminum wheels.
