So much for the dreaded sophomore slump. Heading into its second model year, the GMC Terrain remains one of the most popular vehicles in its class. In fact, through July of this year, the Terrain has been one of the fastest-selling vehicles on the market.
Taken as a whole, the average “turn rate”—that is, the number of days a car or truck stays on a dealer’s lot before it sells—is 51 days for vehicles here in the U.S. For compact SUVs like the Terrain, it’s 28 days. And for the Terrain itself? The turn rate for GMC’s entry in this sizzling segment is a mere 13 days.
Further evidence of the Terrain’s popularity comes from the fact that GMC had to implement three separate production increases since the vehicle’s debut, just to keep up with demand.
“We’ve had an outstanding response to the Terrain since it launched last fall,” said Lisa Hutchinson, GMC product marketing director. And just as importantly, “The Terrain is attracting new buyers to the brand who are looking for an SUV that offers fuel economy, exterior and interior styling, quality and safety that maintain GMC’s reputation for engineering excellence.”
Notably, among those new customers is an increasing number of women. This is vital for GMC’s future growth, as women are responsible for more than half of all vehicle purchases in this country. About 46 percent of Terrain’s customers are women, more than for any other GMC product. That’s also 20 percent higher than for the brand as a whole. In addition, almost 53 percent of all Terrain buyers are trading in non-GM products.
Of course, when you look at the Terrain spec sheet, this kind of sales performance is no surprise. With an eye-catching, sculpted appearance, high levels of content and an MSRP that starts at just $24,250, this GMC is one satisfying product. And that’s even before taking its stellar EPA ratings into account: The Terrain can achieve best-in-class fuel-efficiency marks of 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway/26 mpg combined.
In fact, the only real surprise about the Terrain might just be that it isn’t selling even faster at GM Dealer Clovis
—yet.
