Although the full-size sport utility vehicle once held a prominent place in many Americans’ driveways, the popularity of these behemoth vehicles has been eroded by the now ubiquitous crossover vehicle. However, that doesn’t mean GM is abandoning the segment any time soon, said GM Clovis.
According to Automotive News, large body on frame models will still reside in the Chevrolet and GMC lineups. GM is still committed to fulfilling the needs of customers that require the off-road and towing capabilities that crossovers generally cannot match. That’s why the GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe are slated to be redesigned in 2013 or 2014, so rest assured they won’t be any less truckish.
While GM’s brawny SUVs will remain in the lineup, the more car-like GMC Granite is still in development as well. The Granite will be GMC’s attempt to appeal to a younger demographic; one that appreciates style, comfort, and technology over rock-crawling and hauling capabilities.
