General Motors is trickling out info on its 2014 GMC Sierra pickup truck, scheduled to hit dealerships over the next few months.
The biggest update is literally under the hood. For 2014, the GMC Sierra will be available with three engine choices: the all-new 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8, 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8, and 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V-6. GM has refined the 5.3-liter engine so that it offers 40 more horsepower and 48 lb.-ft. of torque than last year’s Vortec powerplant. Towing capacity has also increased.

Two GMC vehicles had their capabilities put to the test in Texas recently, and both finished at the top of the class: The 2013 GMC Acadia was named the full-size crossover utility vehicle of the year in the annual Texas Truck Rodeo, with the 2013 GMC Terrain earning the honor as the state’s favorite mid-size crossover utility vehicle. When it was first introduced, LED exterior lighting was a clear differentiator between premium vehicles and more mainstream choices. By now, however, the dramatic light treatment has become so commonplace that it’s offered even on today’s economy cars. Of course, making a distinctive style statement will still come easy with the 2013 Buick Enclave, because the luxurious three-row crossover is introducing a standard new LED technology that puts it light years ahead of its rivals. With compact dimensions that belie its full slate of luxury features, the 2013 Buick Encore also will boast EPA ratings of 25 mpg city/33 mpg highway/28 mpg combined when it reaches the market early next year. Those gaudy gas-consumption marks will provide new owners with significant advantages over the competition. Among them:
- The highest fuel-economy marks of any crossover from any of the American-based automakers, and that includes the new Ford Escape with its EcoBoost engine
- EPA-estimated annual fuel costs of $1,900—unbeaten by any 2013 crossover, regardless of brand
- Estimated fuel-cost savings of $2,100 (over a five-year period) as compared to the average new vehicle
